How to verify an Ethereum token contract
Learn how to check a token address, blockchain explorer and contract details before taking action.
Token tickers and names are not unique on Ethereum. Two completely different contracts can display the same token name. The contract address is therefore the primary identifier.
Start with the full address
For EURC, the new Ethereum address published by the project is 0xee17efb0Fa385241211690579D4B691d45134bDA. Compare the complete address character by character, rather than relying on an image or shortened address.
Check the network
Open the address on Etherscan, the explorer for Ethereum mainnet. Confirm that the page refers to the intended network and inspect the token contract, holders, transfers, and source-code verification information.
What verification does not prove
Source-code verification means published code corresponds to the deployed bytecode according to the explorer's verification process. It does not by itself prove that a contract has been audited, is free from vulnerabilities, or is suitable for investment.
Be cautious with approvals
Never grant token approvals or sign transactions simply because a page displays the correct logo. Check the destination, permissions, and legitimacy of the request first.
